Our Learn to Swim program offers swimming lessons, generally from June through July. Program cost is $15, and each keiki may take one class per summer. Call pools directly and/or visit pool webpages for information about class schedules and availability.

SWIM LESSON DESCRIPTIONS

Keiki & Me

• For kids under 5 years old; always requires a responsible adult in the water with child.

Level 1

• Ages 5+; timid in water and may be scared to submerge face in water.

Level 2

• Ages 5+; very comfortable in water, though cannot tread water for 15 seconds, float on back unassisted, or swim with front crawl (or "freestyle") arms at least 5 body lengths

Level 3

• Ages 5+; comfortable in water & prepared to swim in 9+ feet; can swim front crawl and attempt side breathing, can tread for more than 15 seconds unassisted, & will work on swimming a full 25yard length without stopping

Level 4

• Ages 5+; extremely skilled in water and can swim 25 yards of Front Crawl with side breathing, can do breaststroke kick, minimum, and will work on learning three new competitive strokes

There are currently no American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses scheduled.

COURSE INFO:

Course is open to participants who will be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the lifeguarding course.

Participants must pass two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations, which must be completed by or on the first day of classes.

The course costs $123, and payment must be made in cash in the exact amount.

BRING TO CLASS: 

Participants should bring to each class: CPR masks for adults and infants, a bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, water and snacks, and the Lifeguarding Participant’s manual.

An introduction to competitive swimming for keiki who have never swam competitively before. The season runs during the spring and participants compete in swim meets around the island.
