The Department of Parks and Recreation strives to provide safe, accessible, and well-maintained parks and recreation facilities for the community. To accomplish this, it is sometimes necessary to close parks for maintenance and construction projects and during severe weather events.
This closure information is updated regularly. However, some closures may occur without notice, and there could be delays in posting information here. If there are questions about park closures, you may call the Parks and Recreation Administration Office during business hours at 808-961-8311 or email cohparks@hawaiicounty.gov. The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks the public for its understanding and cooperation during these temporary closures.
Hurricane Lala Parks Closures
County parks were heavily impacted by Hurricane Lala. The safety of park users is a top priority, and parks staff have been repairing buildings and grounds and clearing fallen trees to restore safe conditions and access. Most parks have reopened, however several remain closed. Parks and Recreation is working to reopen these parks as soon as we can, and we appreciate the public's patience during these closures.

Whittington Beach Park camping and pavilion permits are canceled until further notice.
Ho'okena Beach Park camping permits are canceled until further notice.

These closures are necessary to maintain and repair high-use parks without exposing park patrons to potential hazards associated with large-scale maintenance work.
